We'd like to thank all the loyal fans and sponsors for supporting our new NPSL FC READING REVOLUTION Men's Team.

Albright College's Shirk Stadium was clearly the best venue in the league, and we hope you enjoyed all home games.  We'd also like to thank the fans who found their way to the away games at Pocono Snow, Baltimore, and with the PA Stoners.

On the field, the (3-6-1) 2009 season was one of constant improvement.  After an 0-4-0 start to the inaugural season, the REVS ended with a 3-2-1 record over its last six games, to place 4th in the division.  On May 31, the men tied the Erie Admirals 2-2 to give the division champs their only season blemish.

Leading scorer, and star midfielder Max Ferdinand was the most dangerous player in the league, and created numerous scoring opportunities for the young Reading squad.  Unfortunately, Max was injured early in the first half vs. Erie during the last home game, and did not return.

The philosophy to play young local players was followed throughout the season.  Former FC Revolution club players lead the way with the youth movement.

During the Pocono Snow game (4-0 win) on June 27, the Revs started 5 players from Eric Puls' successful 2008 U19 boys FC Revolution youth team, including:  Josh Labik (Twin Valley HS '09), Gibrilla Conde (Governor Mifflin HS '09), Mark Yost (Holy Name HS '08), Aaron Roland (Oley Valley HS '08), and Derek Long (Conrad Weiser HS '08).  Eric Pepper (Exeter HS '08) and Eric Weber (Twin Valley HS '08) also played significant second half roles during the win.

Current 17 year old Wilson High School goalkeeper Josh Pacella showed great potential during his 5 appearances, which included 2 starts.

Veteran, and former professional players Jeff Koegel and Eric Puls helped guide the squad with their experience and calm play throughout the season.  Moving Pulsy to a center back position helped stop the bleeding of goals early on, and the organization of the defense helped provide two late season shutouts.  Consistent and creative midfield play from Jeff was a constant throughout the inaugural campaign.

After a successful career at Reading High School and Alvernia College, starting goalkeeepr Rich Kessler was forced to make many key saves during the season and his command of the area was clearly evident.  Alvernia College teammate, Tim Marcinek was a steady influence on the back line.

Former Wilson HS and Millersville University standout Matt Procopio was asked to play several midfield and defensive roles for the team and was one of the team's most reliable players.

Older brother to Josh, and starting defender Tony Pacella, was the team's ironman.  The former Wilson HS standout and current Elizabethtown College star was often matched up with the opposition's best attacking player.  Tony played and started 9 games and saw every minute in those games.

Big Pete Rowley (Muhlenberg HS/Syracuse University) was a major contributor to the attack.  An early season hamstring injury prevented the 6'4" forward from seeing consistent time, but when healthy, Pete provided many good scoring chances, including his 2 goal performance against the Pocono Snow late in the season.

Starting defender Mike Choinoire (Boyertown HS/Kutztown University) started the first 3 games of the year before a leg injury prematurely ended his season.

The two players from outside the Berks County area who saw significant time were midfielder Dominic Popolizio and defender Marsel Peters.  Both players played key roles for the squad, using their experience and steady play.

Midfielders Chris Chestnut (Wilson HS/Bloomsburg University), Rick Duroseau (Reading HS), Ethan Zweizig (Fleetwood HS/Slippery Rock University) and Keegan Moyer (Fleetwood HS/Kutztown University) played reserve roles for the team.  Chestnut was named captain for his upcoming senior season at Bloomsburg.

The 2009 NPSL REVS provided an opportunity for the highly successful U16 FC boys youth team to train and play on several occasions.  (SEE PHOTOS)

PRESS RELEASE

GAMEFACE INTERNATIONAL, LLC Announces New Franchise

Local Soccer Organization FC Revolution Joins the NPSL (National Premier Soccer League)

Wyomissing, February 5, 2009:  GAMEFACE INTERNATIONAL, LLC today announced it has acquired the rights for a men’s soccer franchise in the National Premier Soccer league (NPSL).   The 2009 team will play in the NPSL Northern Region’s Keystone Conference.  This highly competitive league will include, but is not limited to National Team, former and current University and College, foreign, amateur, former professional and youth players.

The men’s team will be known as FC READING REVOLUTION, and will play its home games at Albright College’s recently renovated Shirk Stadium, in Reading, Pennsylvania.  The home opener will be on Saturday, May 16 vs. Buffalo City FC at 7:00 pm.  Gates will open at 6:00 pm.

The schedule ends with a home game vs. the Erie Admirals on July 11, and the full season will conclude with playoffs during the July 18/19, weekend at a site to be determined.

The team’s head coach will be FC Revolution’s Mike Moyer, who spent four seasons in the USL professional ranks; two as the assistant coach for the Philadelphia Freedom, and two as the head coach for the Reading Rage D3 Pro League squad, where in his second season he guided the team to the divisional championship.  Moyer was recently inducted in the Berks Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame, and has coached at almost every domestic level, including two stints in United States Olympic Festivals.

FC Revolution club founder, Eric Puls will serve as the teams’ assistant coach, and technical advisor.  After a successful collegiate career at Syracuse University, the highly touted St. Louis native was selected and signed by the Colorado Rapids in the inaugural Major League Soccer draft.  He also served as the head coach for the Reading Rage during several of the teams’ professional seasons, where he also starred as a 3 time first team all star.  Puls is currently the head coach for several FC Revolution youth teams, including the nationally ranked U16 boys and U15 girls teams.

The National Premier Soccer League (NPSL, is the successor of the Men’s Premier Soccer League (MPSL) which formed in 2002.  In 2005, the league had been recreated into an expanded national league to accommodate teams from the Midwestern region, and in 2007 a Northeastern Region was added.  In 2008, the National Premier Soccer League has become truly a national league with the addition of a Southeastern region. Each team plays a minimum of 10 to a maximum of 16 regular season games. The teams are comprised of players who play at the highest levels of soccer available to men.

The NPSL is sanctioned by the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA) as an affiliate of the United States Soccer Federation (USSF), the ruling body for soccer in the United States and FIFA the world’s ruling body for soccer. Integrity, Success and Longevity is what the National Premier Soccer League stands for. The NPSL operates and is managed as a team run league.

Information about the new team, including tryout dates, will be posted on the FC Revolution web site @ www.fcrevolution.com.
