FC Revolution Mission:
There are many things “about” FC Revolution.
The club was founded by St. Louis native Eric Puls, 5 years ago. Eric was originally introduced to the Berks County area by current U13 boy’s coach Jerry Moyer. Jerry had known about, and coached Eric at Syracuse University, where he starred as an attacking player for head coach Dean Foti.
The initial contact was made by Jerry to have Eric join the new Reading Rage professional team in 1996. Current club co-owner, Mike Moyer was the organization’s first head coach, and the team was looking for exciting players to sign. Soon after leaving Syracuse, Eric spent 3 seasons playing professional soccer in Germany, and was also drafted in the inaugural Major League Soccer draft by the Colorado Rapids. After being signed, and spending the entire preseason with the Rapids, Eric decided to play with the Rage, and the story continues.
Puls led the Rage to winning records in each of his first two years, with the team winning the divisional championship in 1997. He was named to the all league team three times, and also served as the team’s head coach for two seasons.
During his later years with the Rage, Puls founded the Reading Rage Juniors youth soccer travel program, which eventually led the formation of the current FC Revolution system.
On the coaching side, Puls and his FC Revolution teams have had incredible success both on and off the field. His U16 Dynamo girls are currently ranked 2nd in the state, and his U17 Rev Boys are also in the top 5. Both teams have gained a reputation around the nation as playing a skillful, attractive, and effective style of soccer. Both teams have attracted players from as far away as Wilkes-Barre and the Harrisburg areas.
Puls’ coaching style and methods have helped hundreds of youth players develop into the successful players they are today.
Currently, he coaches the U12 Boys, U13 Girls, U16 Dynamo Girls, and the U17 Rev Boys. He also served as player/assistant coach this past summer for the newly formed FC Reading Revolution NPSL team. He also directs the highly successful winter academy instructional programs which occur at the Grand Slam Sports Complex, and will begin their 3rd year in November.
During the summer of 2007, Puls and current club co-owner Mike Moyer began talks about a possible merger, which included the club and the Moyer’s Big Kick Soccer programs. Two months later, the merger was finalized. In October of the same year, the newly formed organization moved into its current headquarters on Penn Avenue in Wyomissing.
Moyer has a long history in Berks County soccer. He is a former first team all-county player at Fleetwood High School, and former captain at West Chester State College’s Division One soccer team. He also served as the assistant coach at West Chester in 1984.
Moyer was named Wilson High School’s head boy’s soccer coach in 1985. He continued as the school’s head coach for eleven successful seasons. His boy’s teams accumulated 305 wins during 17 seasons, which included 6 Berks County championships, 2 District III championships, and a PIAA state championship in 1992.
He also guided the Wilson High School girls program to 3 consecutive Berks championships, 2 District III championships, and a 77-5-1 record over three seasons.
Moyer taught physical education in the Octorara and Wilson school districts for 17 years. During those years he also coached JV high school basketball, and varsity girl’s volleyball. His 1982 Octorara girl’s team played in the PIAA state volleyball tournament at Penn State.
Moyer coached in two United States Olympic Festivals. In 1986, he was named the assistant coach for the East Women’s team in Houston, Texas. The following year he was assigned as the assistant coach for the East Men’s team in Durham, North Carolina. The 1987 team included former US National team stars Peter Vermes and Tab Ramos. The head coach for the men’s squad was John Ellinger, who was the head coach at Real Salt Lake, is currently the assistant coach for FC Dallas in Major league Soccer. Ellinger is also a former staff member at the Big Kick Soccer Camps.
FC Revolution currently has 18 youth teams and a men's NPSL team. The future of the club will include the addition of a WPSL women's team, and the development of an under 8 rec program.
